Hiring of New Director Turns a New Leaf for Method Child Development Center

Method welcomes new director with a free, fall festival

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 19, 2012)For nearly two years, Method Child Development Center has searched for the right person to lead the Center as its Director. In 2007 a military call of duty meant that then-Method teacher Natasha Kirby had to postpone her plans for a career in childhood education. And in 2011 her other professional commitments meant she had to decline an offer extended to her to become Director of Method.

Now five years after she was called to duty, Method is proud to announce Kirby as its new Director. Kirby rejoined the non-profit childcare facility in mid-September. To celebrate her return as Method’s new director and the turning of a new leaf, Method Child Development Center invites families to a 2012 Fall Festival on Friday, Oct. 26 from 5:30 to 7:30p.m. The event is open to current and past Method families, along with community families and Method’s staff and Board members.

The Festival will include games, a pumpkin patch, face painting and more. The Festival will be held at Method Child Development Center, located at 900 Trailwood Drive near the intersection of Trailwood Drive and Avent Ferry Road (only 2 blocks from NCSU Centennial Campus).

Method Child Development Center was the first multi-racial daycare in Wake County. Founded in 1969 by five area churches, it still maintains its diversity and is supported by a community Board of Directors. As a full-time non-profit childcare facility, Method cares for children ages 6-weeks-old to 5-years-old and is open five days a week, from 7:00a.m. - 6:00p.m., with the exception of major holidays.

“Method has a proud history of teaching children at an early age to love each other without care of the color of a person’s skin or the money in his pocket,” said Caroline Farmer, Chair of Method’s Board of Directors. “New Director Natasha Kirby exemplifies this trait in the way that she welcomes every family that walks in the door and every staff member working there. She teaches the children to do the same.”

Kirby grew up in Raleigh. She has worked in the childcare field for nine years and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Education.

Additionally, Natasha is an Iraq war veteran and has served 10 years in the United States Army. Before her last deployment, Kirby worked at Method as a teacher in the toddler’s classroom.

Kirby has always known her heart belonged with teaching and nurturing kids.

“I love working with young children. I feel that this is the time that we as educators have the chance to make a positive impact in a child’s life,” Kirby said. “I am thrilled to be back at Method Child Development Center. I am very excited about the future of Method.”

Although she did not realize it at the time, Method has been waiting for her to return all these years.

About Method Child Development Center

Method Day Care Center was the first multi-racial daycare in Wake County in 1969 and still maintains its diversity. It is a non-profit organization, founded by five area churches, which formed the Raleigh Inter-Church Housing Corporation (RICH). Operations began in the Method community of Raleigh with seventeen children, two staff members, and many talented volunteers. Method was organized to serve children from all socioeconomic background and proudly continues that tradition. In 2004, Method changed its name to Method Child Development Center and moved from Pullen Baptist Church to its current facility located at 900 Trailwood Drive in Raleigh, NC.
